Project Brief

The Challenge — Currently, there is no marketplace that allows users to see the demand for specific jobs and skills. There is an opportunity for users to gain useful and relevant data about the value of certain skills when making career decisions.

The brief for the project, by Citi Ventures Studio, was to

“ Design a new marketplace interface to improve a users job search journey by incorporating market data & metrics of jobs, skills, regional data, and comparative metrics. ”

Empathize

The first step of the process was to gather data using primary and secondary research methods to understand which statistical metrics would be most useful for users to consider when making career decisions:

  • Industry Analysis: To better understand how to create a new platform we have decided to research and analyze the tools and options available to the user in the Housing Market, the Financial Market, and Delivery Apps.

  • Customer Experience Audit: research customer review for other job sites and what are the different steps taken when a user applies to jobs (Worthi tool, Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn)

  • User Research: to understand which statistical metrics would be most useful for users to consider when making career decisions (changing jobs, acquiring new skills, moving to new regions, etc.)

Define - Ideate - Prototype

Insight Organization: Personas and Concept Mapping
The second step of the process was themed around Understanding User Needs. We categorized the collected data and research findings by organizing insights into distinct personas. This enabled us to create our first concept mapping draft, which helped illuminate the various needs a person might encounter when choosing a career and finding a job.

Translating Insights into Actionable Steps: User Flows and Design Sketches
The third part of the process focused on Designing for User Experience. We finalized the collection of our data into actionable steps for integration into the platform. This involved creating user flow journeys, developing an information architecture map, and drawing preliminary rough sketches to explore and test different interface ideas.

Prototype Development: Building with Real Data
The fourth part of the process was centered on Prototyping and Validation. We built a working prototype grounded in real facts and figures, ensuring that our design was both functional and aligned with user needs.

Outcome

Over the period of 10 weeks, collaborated with a team of 3 designers on developing a thorough user research and competitive analysis in order to prototype the interface of a marketplace that allows users to see the demand for specific jobs and skills.
